Hummingchicks
The above photo was taken in early June by neighbor, Carl Strom.
The nest was built from spider web filaments, according to Carl,
on the branch of a giant old oak at the Mermaid.
Another nest is above the front door on a metal hook in the ceiling.
Nests are about the size of half a walnut shell.
The hummingbird mom would give away the location by dive-bombing anyone
coming close. Soon after these chicks had left the nest,
another set of eggs were observed.
Hummingbirds are full grown when they leave the nest.
